When he saves the life of a PR agent named Ray (Jason Bateman, Arrested Development), Ray decides to improve Hancock’s image - starting by having Hancock surrender to the authorities and go to jail for his behavior anarchic. The idea is that once he is in prison, the crime rate will increase, and people will start realizing Hancock might be useful after all. This is only the first act of Hancock - from there the film takes several turns of mind that should not be revealed. Hancock is not a great movie (among other things, director Peter Berg abuse closeups with a portable device to a degree that may cause motion sickness), but it is extremely entertaining. The script, which is much better than most films of super-hero, has a propulsive plot, good dialogue, some compassion for his characters, and even an actual idea or two. The spectacular action at least gestures towards obeying the laws of physics, which actually makes the special effects more vivid. The three leads (Smith, Bateman and Charlize Theron as Ray’s wife, Mary) deftly balance mixture of film comedy, action and drama. The Mummy : Tomb of the Dragon Emperor has a lot to offer: a supporting cast that includes the elegant Michelle Yeoh, Russell Wong, Liam Cunningham, the unexpected appearance of several Yeti and a climactic battle sequence that is terrifying is bizarre but convincing. On the downside, the charm so desperately sought in romantic relationships, as well as curves drawn by John Hannah (as Evelyn’s brother Rascal), is not only absent but often annoying. Rarely witty asides in the heart the battle been more unwelcome in a movie executive. But some extra material has been added, including new villains (who would be considered “bosses” if this were a video game, and it often feels like one) and a political subplot involving new characters and a significantly expanded role for the queen of Sparta (Lena Headey). While this subplot by director Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead) and his fellow co-authors do not break the violence, most fans would probably dismiss it as filler if it did not include the sexy Headey. Other viewers, of course, will be turned off by the waves of spurting blood, flying body parts, and surging testosterone. (The six-pack abs are also relentless, and the film has more or less nudity - more female, less male - than the graphic novel.) The desultory comedy strikes a lowbrow tone from its opening scene (Harold takes a shower while Kumar has a diarrhea attack) and do not get much more interesting than that. If there is a bodily fluid that does not classify a joke in Guantanamo Bay, no. The persistent sight gags about weed (including a smoked visit with President Bush) never reach the kind of dizzying heights that pot humor requires, leaving much of the comedy film hanging like dead space . The following attempt to say something, albeit in a crude manner, on the condition of the country during the Bush years is obvious and empty. Inside his mind, he holds a secret key in the battle to defeat the Dark Lord, and Harry is instructed by Dumbledore to find a memory about weapons darkest Voldemort - the Horcrux. Despite the long list of distractions, Harry, Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) are still trying to focus on adolescents to be, and the public will appreciate the budding romances awkward. All players have developed well, giving their most convincing performance so far. More important things and more meaningful to go into this film than any of his predecessors, and the stakes are higher than ever. The designers were tasked with a challenge almost impossible, that fans of the series beloved JK Rowling book desperately want the movies to capture the magic of books as closely as possible. Alas, the point where we accept that these two mediums are very different is the point where we can really enjoy these brilliant adaptations. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is no exception: it may be the best movie yet. For those who have not read the book, nail biting entertainment is assured. For those who have the film that does justice. The key dramatic scenes, including the cave and the shocking twist in the last chapter, are executed very well.
