Amazon. essential com VideoA big budget epic summer with money to burn and a scale worthy of its predecessors Gold Hollywood, Ridley Scott, Gladiator is an alarm clock, gruesome, action-packed epic that takes the moviemaking back to the Roman Empire via computer-generated visual effects. While not as fluid as the computer work done for, say, Titanic, it is an impressive achievement that will leave you marveling at the glory that was Rome, when you’re not amazed at the glory that is Russell Crowe. With a heroic general Maximus, Crowe firmly cements his star status both in terms of screen presence and acting chops, carrying the film on his shoulders, decidedly non-computer-generated as he goes from brave heroes general to wounded fugitive to stoic slave to gladiator. Golf Gladiator is a whirlwind of faux-Shakespearean machinations of death, betrayal, power plays and secret identities (with lots of faux-Shakespearean dialogue ladle on to keep the proceedings appropriately “classical”), but it’s all good not shot, edited and movement with a contemporary sensibility. Even the action scenes, somewhat muted but graphic in terms of implied violence and liberal bloodletting, are shot with a truth that brings to mind – believe it or not – Saving Private Ryan, even if all the world wears a toga. As Nemesis Crowe, the evil emperor Commodus, Joaquin Phoenix chews scenery with authority, whether Maximus overwhelming popularity with the Roman crowd or coveting his sister Lucilla (beautiful but distant Connie Nielsen), Oliver Reed, in his latest role, she hits the perfect notes of camp and seriousness that the slave owner who saves Maximus from death and transformed into a star Coliseum. Visual flair of director Scott is abundantly in evidence, with plans breathtaking and beautiful (albeit digital) landscapes, but Crowe is a star that will keep you in slavery – it is a true gladiator, worthy of his legendary status. I do not understand why this won an Oscar, or why people think this is good. It had one great scene: the battle tank in the Coliseum. It’s really the only thing worth seeing in this entire film. Russell Crowe has “character” Maximus cries Braveheart another form Roman. It was overmelodramatic, the music was bad, and the kinematic pire.Russel Crowe was not an actor, he reminds me of Marlon Brando in Street Car Named Desire. Everything he does is below. . . . yay. It was not even close to Heroic. Well, it’s a bit better than Mel Gibson or Brando in the film would have really been choisis.Il Braveheart, if Russell Crowe had been forced to speak Spanish. . . . . If they changed the “acting” for Crowe, why not change the character in English, or something. . . . calling him “The Spaniard” all the time made me laugh when I saw the movie stank film.Cela and I’m glad I never had the urge to buy the DVD or see ANY Crowe films, although I was forced to watch Master and Commander rentals. . . and all was well, if you liked seafaring movies with great special effects. ‘-20 On the rating scale Pukedom. I just told you I was bored to tears watching this movie long and stupid. It does not win the rights for an Academy Award :-( Rating: 1 / 5

  5. In a scene early in the film, General Maximus (Russell Crowe) is a prisoner who is about to be executed. He is kneeling, his hands tightly bound. His executioner was standing behind him, his sword point on his neck, about to break his spine. A moment later Crowe is on his feet, sword in hand and with both hands free. What utter nonsense! The only reality now is that Hollywood movies today do not. This film, like most today, is sadly unrealistic. How can it possibly be “amused” by Mindless garbage such? In another scene, the emperor (Joaquin Phoenix) tells Maximus that before his soldiers had murdered his wife, they were repeatedly raped, and she prayed over. Hollywood today likes to wallow in the mire so! I do not, and I sincerely hope that you will not plus.En short, this movie has my intelligence insulted and assaulted my consciousness, so I’m giving it one star. Frankly, much of it does not deserve cela.BTW I expect negative replies to this review to outnumber positive responses from seven to one, which is another indication of the severe punishment that our culture and our country are today. Rating: 1 / 5
