I am very happy the DVD main language is English, and I support the director in purchasing the product. This is not very inclined to everyone that the main language is English, because the primary language is American English. If you want to hear the film in Mandarin, you may do so with the push of a button. Buy the DVD, press the filmmaker, and enjoy this great movie in English or Mandarin! Rating: 5 / 5

Amazing movie. . . somewhat slower pace than many of the “other martial arts” films of its era, but flawless in its delivery. Some of cinema’s most beautiful I’ve ever seen. Elegant, fluid, poignant. . . We need more films like that! A must for all cinephiles Rating: 5 / 5

Some of these comments made me laugh out loud, they were so ridiculous. Yes, I am a techno-nerd, too, with the reference-quality A / V gear. But the most unfortunate of these commentators are missing the point really. By a mile. If I took this attitude, I would never go see a movie again, listen to a concert or never buy another BluRay. Get over it, guys, and – incidentally – FYI the vast majority of surround sound systems suck anyway, as everyone at the knowledge of any phsychoacoustics could témoigner. So, let’s get down to basics and things that matter really. My wife (who is Chinese) and I sat in front of our reference Kuro and had a great time. We listened to “humble” 5. 1 Song Putonghua course and did not bother a iota.Il is a great epic wushu with charismatic actors, beautiful locations, decent CGI and – especially-cinematography fabulous . And the transfer is decent BluRay. Not great, but well, better than the ham fist debacle that was’ Flying Daggers. “What do you want? Lighten up, guys! Rating: 5 / 5

  4. HERO By bringing to American audiences, Quentin Tarantino and Miramax allow us to see a film that is essentially a perfect example of the genre. Director Zhang Yimou (CURSE OF THE GOLDEN FLOWER) creates an epic sweep that combines great action sequences, a compelling story of heroism and love, beauty and brilliance. The story follows a nameless warrior (Jet Li) in his quest to assassinate the King of Qin fearful that destroyed his family. The king is trying to unite the seven warring states of China but has made many enemies in conquered lands. To guard against assassination attempts, no one is allowed within 100 paces of the rule. The nameless warrior should get ten paces, to perform a movement that is guaranteed to kill his enemy. To gain access to king, the warrior is the weapons of three assassins, Sky (Donnie Yen), Flying Snow (Maggie Cheung) and Broken Sword (Tony Leung). The story of how the warrior has acquired the weapons and his true intentions are revealed slowly, and then must decide the fate of the king and a China unie.HERO is defined by its visual splendor. It is a sequence of one beautiful image after another. Panoramas of vast desolate expanses of lush, grandeur of the palace of the king, each scene of the film is characterized by its own landscape and colors. In a fight scene between Flying Snow and Moon (Zhang Ziyi), a forest carpeted with golden autumn leaves is perfectly complemented by rich red robes of the characters. In another case, Li and Leung battle perfectly still on a lake surrounded by misty peaks. Each landscape is used in its magnificent natural beauty, and color palette of the film is rich and complex. Windswept Moonscapes voids are in contrast with the multitudes sequenced the King’s Palace (think Bejing Opening Ceremonies). Hero as a film becomes a lesson in visual harmony and balance. HERO is also an action movie, but not in “the beat” kind of way. Although there are plenty of martial arts in this film, including a surprising and highly anticipated, scene involving Jet Li and Donnie Yen, martial arts are very ballet with an emphasis on Wirework. The result is an action that runs nothing but praise for the visual beauty and history of film. HERO is a subtle and harmonious blend of action, story and cinematography, not obscure another aspect. The balance of HERO is further enhanced by a beautiful score with violinist Itzhak Pearlman and traditional drum Kodo.HERO is a film that immerses the viewer in his vision and the world. It is a film that must be absorbed by the senses and be fully experienced at any moment. It addresses issues of loyalty, love and the true nature of heroism while entertaining with stunning displays of martial arts. It made me better understand and appreciate the beauty in the natural world and the spirit of man. HERO is a rare film in that it is perfect in itself. It is simply the general art.Pour Blu-ray, which Miramax is a digital copy of the film to allow viewers to play the movie on the go via their computer. There are a couple of documentaries, including one minutes nine “Close-up of a Fight Scene”, interviews with Quentin Tarantino and Jet Li, a section Storyboard storyboard comparison of the film and the finished product and twenty-four minute making of featurette “defined HERO ‘where director Zhang Yimou gives an overview of some of the challenges the actors and crew to film in front of such remote areas of China. Overall, bonuses are exactly what one might wait and give an informative insight into the making of this epic. Rating: 5 / 5
