The Dark Knight: Limited Edition with Batpod

Amazon. comThe Dark Knight arrives with tremendous hype (best movie superhero ever? posthumous Oscar for Heath Ledger?), incredibly, it lives up to the full. But he called the best superhero movie like praise still seems low, because part of what makes the movie great – in addition to pitch-perfect casting, outstanding writing and a compelling vision – is that bypasses the normal element of fantasy superhero genre and makes it all terrifying. Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is new Attorney of Gotham City, for cleaning up criminal networks that have paralyzed the city. He enters an uneasy alliance with the young police lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and Batman (Christian Bale), who capped the judge seems to trust only Gordon – and whom only Gordon seems to trust. They are making progress until a new player and psychotic murderers entering the game: the Joker (Heath Ledger), who offers the crime bosses a solution – Kill The Batman. Complicating matters is that Dent is now dating Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, after Katie Holmes rejected the chance to reprise his role), the longtime love of Batman’s alter ego Bruce Wayne. In his last completed role before his tragic death, Ledger is fantastic as the Joker, a volcanic eruption, a real frightening force of evil. And it sets the tone of the film: the world is a dark and dangerous place where there are no easy choices. Eckhart and Oldman also shine, but as good as Bale is, his character turns out rather bland in comparison (not uncommon for heroes facing more colorful villains). Cowriter Director Christopher Nolan (Memento) follows his acclaimed Batman Begins with a critical result that still stands out better films notable superheroes as Spider-Man 2 and Iron Man because of its pure emotional impact and sense of realism striking – there is no suspension of disbelief the great powers here. At 152 minutes is too long, and it is much too intense for children. But for most movie fans – and not just fans of superhero – The Dark Knight is a film for the ages. – David HoriuchiOn Blu-ray discThe Dark Knight on Blu-ray is a big showoff disc home theater. Details and colors are enormous both dark and bright scenes (the scene Gotham General is an excellent example of the latter), and punish the Dolby TrueHD soundtrack makes the house rattle. (After giving us only Dolby 5. 1 in a large number of Blu-ray releases this fall, Warner has provided a Dolby TrueHD on this one.) One of the most interesting elements of The Dark Knight has been the way some scenes were shot in IMAX, and if you saw the movie in an IMAX theater aspect ratio of the film, suddenly changing standard 2. 40:1 with a thrilling 1. 43:1 that filled the screen six storeys. For the Blu-ray, director Christopher Nolan has made some re-created the experience by moving its film 2. 40:1 aspect ratio (through most of the film) to 1. 78:1 scenes in IMAX. Although the effect is not as dramatic as it was in theaters, is still an attractive experience to watch the movie on a big TV screen with black bars top and bottom, then seeing the 1. 78:1 scenes fill the entire screen. The main bonus feature on Disc 1 is “Gotham Uncovered: The Creation of a Scene”, which is 81 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage on the IMAX scenes, costume Bat, Gotham Central and other . You can watch the film and access these featurettes where the icon appears, or you can simply look them in the main menu. An unusual and welcome feature is that, in addition to English, French, and Spanish audio and subtitles, there is an audio description option that allows the visually impaired experience the film as well . Disc 2 has two 45-minute documentaries on Bat-gadgets and the psychology of Batman, both in high definition. They combine clips, Talking Heads, and comic book panels, but not the kind of thing you need to watch twice. More attractive are six eight-minute segments Gotham Central, a program of false news which gives some background to the events in the movie, plus a range of trailers, posters, and more. The BD-Live disk component 1 is more interesting than some Blu-ray soon, which could be simply a matter of content starts to catch up with the technology. There are three new picture-in-picture commentaries by Jerry Robinson (creator of the Joker), DC Comics President Paul Levitz, and Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt. – that he is a fan of Batman, which made some films and TV cameos), the more you can save your own review and forward it to others to watch. There are also three new featurettes ( “Sound of the Batpod”, “Theme Harvey Dent,” and “Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard”) and two comics movement ( “Mad Love” featuring Harley Quinn and The Shadow of Ra’s Al Ghul “). Finally, there is a digital copy of the film compatible with iTunes and Windows Media (standard definition, expires 12/9/09). – David Horiuchi

  • Although this film is miles better than the dirt that is Batman and Robin, it is not without flaws. Firstly the film is far too long with several scenes being much wider than what they need and others that have been cut outright. It also seems to suffer from the “Will it ever end” syndrome of many defendants, the return of the king and while I do not think that the endings of many that took place during the end to a saga in three parties, I could not help but feel that the film had reached a satisfactory conclusion in mid-course. Like many other comic book films of late, there seems to be a tendency to throw two bad against each hero.’s the fault of the comic film genre that while comic books tend to draw a story about a film several issues must be wrapped in two to three hours demanding the viewer to be tossed from a sequence action to another with few breaks of exposure. Although this film is a little better to create atmosphere and develop the characters and it’s as if they were trying to bring in. It would be too unfair not to mention Heath Ledgers performance in the comments and I must say I loved the Joker. I still have to see my perfect on-screen version of the Joker Heath, but is by far the best yet. An entertaining but far from perfect film. Rating: 3 / 5

The audio description track is not unusual actually, most popular DVD releases
now have an audio description track for
people with sight loss. It’s like an audio book.
